Use migration when Billing offers it for your account.

Step by step

  1. Review frequency, terms and destination method in the flow. Switch to shows a single destination: the method you do not use today. If we charge through Mercado Pago, the destination is the card; if we charge a card, the destination is Mercado Pago. That destination is one single card on screen: the method with its description on top, the form and the continue button below, and the legal text under the card. The whole screen uses one column.
  2. Complete destination enrollment. The flow aims to do this before canceling the source.
  3. Wait for the outcome and check the next charge date; migration preserves the subscription’s reference date. If you move from Mercado Pago to a card, the first card charge falls on the date Mercado Pago was going to charge. With an unpaid Mercado Pago installment, the card charge is immediate instead.
  4. If you move from a card to Mercado Pago, the Mercado Pago authorization link expires after 24 hours. If it expired, generate a new one from Payment method; the old link no longer authorizes anything.
  5. You can change the payment method whenever you want. If an earlier change was left unfinished, it is discarded on its own: you do not have to wait for anything or ask us to unblock it.
  6. For an error, follow recovery for that specific stage.

Change the card of a Mercado Pago subscription

If your subscription is charged through Mercado Pago, the card or payment method changes in your Mercado Pago account. Use Manage in Mercado Pago, on the payment method page or on the Mercado Pago card of Payment methods: it opens that subscription detail in a new tab. That link only shows while the subscription is live: if it is cancelled there is nothing left to manage at Mercado Pago, and the card offers Subscribe again instead, pointing at the same place as the notice at the top of Billing. It does not open a new sign-up, so it does not create a second subscription. To stop paying through Mercado Pago and move to a card, use the migration above. The other way works too: if we charge a card today and you are in Argentina, Payment methods shows Switch to Mercado Pago, which takes you to the payment method page to make the change.

If your subscription is cancelled

If your subscription is cancelled, Payment method shows no summary and no destination: there is nothing to change. You see that you have no active subscription, the date you cancelled it when we have it, and Subscribe again. Subscribe again first; then you can change the payment method. A cancellation scheduled for the end of the cycle is different: you are covered until that date, so the summary stays and the date reads Cancels on instead of Next charge.

What the Current row shows

Current says which method we charge today. If it is a card and we can read its last four digits, you will see them. If we do not have them yet, it says Card with no number: we never print a number we did not read. The Plan row carries your plan price. If we cannot resolve it, it says Price unavailable instead of an amount: you never see ”$ 0”. In that case we do not offer the payment method change either, and the screen tells you to contact support. Any error of the change is shown on screen: the button is never left without an answer.

How to verify the result

Confirmed migration changes the payment rail. It does not transfer the store to another account or prove every earlier attempt completed.

If something goes wrong

  • Do not manually cancel the source ahead of the flow.
  • Without confirmation, check status before registering or charging a card again.

You can change again whenever you want

A change you started and did not finish does not block you. When you start a new one, the earlier one is discarded and we continue with the one you just asked for. The only time we ask you to retry is when we cannot verify your Mercado Pago account at that moment. That is a delay, not a block: try again in a while. We stop there on purpose, so you never end up with two live charges at the same time.

While we confirm with Mercado Pago

The confirmation screen tells you which step it is really on, instead of always the same thing. While we wait for Mercado Pago the current step spins and we keep asking every few seconds: it can take a couple of minutes. If it goes past the limit the screen does not stop — it keeps checking on its own, more slowly, and updates when Mercado Pago confirms — and it tells you exactly what to expect: if it activates while you are still there, you will see it on that same screen; if you leave, we will email you. You are not charged twice, and if you still had trial days left, no charge is made until they end. If the authorisation is rejected, the error is marked on the step that failed. After half an hour the screen stops checking on its own; Check again puts it back to work. And if you already have an active subscription, we do not create a second one: we cancel the new authorisation at Mercado Pago so it does not charge you twice. When the wait goes past the limit, the screen shows you where it got stuck before offering to check again. The attempt reference support may ask for now lives under Help, at the foot: it no longer competes with what you are looking at. That whole wait is now a single card: the Mercado Pago logo and the title on top, a bar underneath that moves when a step moves, and one row per step. The step currently running is highlighted, so you do not have to read all three lines to know where you are. When Mercado Pago takes longer than expected, the card turns amber with a clock and puts two routes in reach: Check again or Go to my panel. When it finishes well, all three steps end up ticked. When you add a card from Payment method, the number, expiry and security code fields now sit inside their own box. They used to be drawn offset and spilled out of the field.
